It's that time of year again! The Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, when the moon is at its fullest and brightest and all of the efforts of summer are being realized in the harvest. We had a lot of fun making mooncakes, which are the traditional food eaten for this festival.
We started by mixing up our filling:
Then things can get rather messy... time to put on the gloves!
The filling then gets rolled into little balls. It's just like working with play-doh... except this dough has lots of nuts!
After the filling is ready, the little balls are wrapped in the outer dough.
Then each little mooncake is flattened and pressed into a decorative mold. Now they are starting to look like mooncakes!
Time to get them in the oven!
The final result is irresistible... freshly baked, warm and fragrant. So yummy!
