A Day on the Playground

As the hot summer days slowly leave us for cooler fall temperatures, the days we can go outside to play for hours are also slowly coming to an end. So, we are soaking up as much sun and fun as we can!

Xin on the slideXia climbing up

The classic slide is a sure crowd-pleaser! Xin guarded the slide ensuring that only those who knew how to climb up and slide down could use it.  Luckily, all the kids are experts!

And what’s even better is when you can slide down with your buddy on the double slide!

The seesaw was another big hit! Le, Xia, and Lu, loved being lifted high up into the air!

Quan, Guo, and Li were a little more skeptical but eventually had fun!

Lu was super adventurous!

Finally, everyone had so much fun going round and round in the carousal.

Fashion Show

The day started just like any other day – the sun rose before 6 am and was shining brightly by the time the children got out of bed. After brushing their teeth, washing their faces, and changing out of their pajamas, they were ready for breakfast. What they didn’t expect was that after breakfast they had an exciting morning ahead…..a very generous donor sent us a lot of fancy clothes for the children, and so of course, we had a fashion show!

The older girls, Yu, Chen, and Lei, loved trying out the different dresses. Ultimately Lei and Chen loved the pink one the best!

The next room we went to was the room with all the toddlers. These girls wanted to walk up and down the hallway showing off their new pretty dresses!

In addition to beautiful dresses, this generous donor also gifted us with some basic onesies. During these hot summer months, these onesies are super comfortable for the kids.

To top off all that fun, the kids even received dolls with matching outfits to play with! We look forward to seeing the kids reap tons of benefits from playing with these dolls. Playing with dolls encourages children to gain a greater understanding of themselves and others through the development of compassion, responsibility, imagination and language.

Thank you so much to the generous donor for this wonderful gift!

Children's Day

There is a group of children born with complicated medical needs,
who didn’t have access to effective treatment
and were abandoned by their birth parents.

But this is not the end of their story.
These children are now at Dew Drops,
a home that provides a new beginning, healing, and love to all.

Today, on June 1st — Children’s Day in China — we take a moment to celebrate every child at Dew Drops. We hope that they too experience happiness and joy on this special day!

“Encouraging a child means that one or more of the following critical life messages are coming through, either by word or by action: I believe in you, I trust you, I know you can handle this, You are listened to, You are cared for, You are very important to me.”                                                                                 - Barbara Coloroso

Dumplings

In October 2019, we launched a new project with one of our partner orphanages in a small city in a northern province in China. We are currently providing specialized care to 45 children in this project. The children range in age from one month — twin brothers!– to 15 years old.

Food is an integral part of the day for these children as it not only provides nutrients but also helps them to build a special bond with caregivers. We have been in lock-down for two months now in response to COVID-19, and so, to provide something exciting to look forward to each day, the caregivers have been cooking all kinds of treats!

Under Lily’s  supervision, our chefs have been cooking up a storm. The menu has included meatball soup, noodles, wantons, dumplings (jiǎozi), stuffed steamed buns (bāozi), banana pancakes, muffins the list goes on and on.

Yesterday, we made over 80 dumplings, which were gobbled up by 13 kids! Being stuck inside during this difficult time might be hard but at least these children haven’t lost their appetites!
